I love this video, my son sent it to me the other day via Facebook. I only wish I had the same talent for training my dog.
*ReturningWest, I have a border collie, and he does have an 'off' switch. He's learned that whenever I'm working (I work part-time in my employer's office, part-time at home) he has to lie down and chill. I think the key is to always meet the dog's needs first. Energy levels of a border can be intense, but as long as they are always met, the dog will tone down during off-peak hours. I take my guy out first thing in the morning for an intense Chuck-It ball throwing game, a walk mixed in with that, and then return home so he can have his breakfast. Then he settles in for a snooze while I work...and once I'm done, late in the day, another round of ball play/outdoor time, and often a mental challenge once home (bring me "elephant"/"mouse"/"squirrel" - whatever stuffed toy by name - and/or find and retrieve the hidden toy). Meet the needs first, and I think any dog can make a great pet.
