Well within their rights You sign up to be TD They coving the dog incase of injuries. I paid $20 a yr for my dogs to be Re-tested & insured to visit folks in nursing homes .... part of that Covered ins in case claws scratched a person or she nipped some one. Elderly have thin skin & Diabetics could loose a limb.
Understand they have the right, but trying to figure out what part of his costume could cause serious injury. Unless he rode over someone on the cycle, maybe?
The clasps & buckles the laces all can be caught on a person hand dog jumps down person gets hurt. ALL he had to do is Remove the out fit BEFORE the dog got near the people he visiting!
I understand Pet Partner's (formerly Delta) policy. They mailed him a warning letter a year ago. He made the decision to continue despite the warning and should've expected the consequences. It's his bad not theirs.
Folks do love costumes but they can cause damage as Katie1 posted. Tango has many decorative bandanas that are 100% fabric. His collar slides though a stitched opening along the top edge of the bandana...very easy and safe.
I am sure he will have no trouble certifying with another therapy dog organization.
We did not go with Delta because they changed their policy to prohibit raw fed dogs...a very short-sighted and uninformed decision IMO since the kibbled foods have had many more recalls for salmonella than the commercial raw foods. But that's OK...we found a fabulous local organization to train/certify with and have been so very happy with them.
Our org does not have their own insurance coverage (PP does) but requires a copy of our personal liability policy. Hence the ability to be a bit less restrictive and offer guidelines as opposed to rules.
We have a therapy dog and the rules are very clear on what you can and cannot do. If you don't follow the rules like everyone else does you should not be allowed to participate.
