Tonight its supposed to get down to 15 F. here in Oklahoma. I am bringing my baby inside for the night. She is a 4 year old german shepherd.
I have no idea how cold is too cold for a dog to be outside, but I'm not going to learn the hard way. She has an igloo full of cedar chips, but that's not going to cut it for me. She gets the royal treatment tonite!
Lucky you! Last I checked it was 3 degrees. When will this snow ever melt.
Glad to hear she will be coming inside. That is a good idea. Igloos are not the greatest. They are supposed to be all weather good but don't chance it. They really are not all that warm for them to keep their body heat.
Kudo's to you for bringing your dog inside. I have always made it a practice to bring in dogs if the temp fell below 25 degrees or the wind chill was down to that temp. Clean straw and a good doghouse will probably protect them in worse conditions but, like you, I didn't want to take the chance and subject them to harm.
Well, its morning so she went outside. I will have to remember to bathe her during the day before I plan on letting her inside.
Our little 9 lb yorkie was not too pleased when this behemoth come walkin in the front door. Or else, the yorkie was just saying to the shepherd, YOUR'E on my turf now, behave!
my moms outside dogs slept in the laundry room last night
We are watching all the dogs and stupid chickens(tasty pigeons)
I am keeping her cocker spaniel at my house and I go to my moms early in the morning to let the dogs run and lock them in their pen for the day(size of a backyard) and usually they sleep out there, but it's to cold. Tonight they will sleep in the laundry room as well.
it feels like 20 here today ...I'M IN FLORIDA and it feels like 20 .....holy cow or more like frozen cows
My dog is outside during the day (unless the weather is really bad), and inside at night. I'm really looking forward to moving so that I can put in a dog door and she can come and go as she pleases. She loves being outside during the day, but she loves being inside at night.
I have an Alaskan Husky/Golden Lab. mixed 4 year-old female who loves the cold. I have a doggie-door in the back of my heated garage so she can come and go as she pleases. The garage stays at +40°F all winter. During the summer she spends most of her day inside the house, but as soon as the snow flies she spends the bulk of her time outside. Even when the temperature drops to -20°F, she will stay outside for several hours.
She also has an insulated dog house, raised off the ground and lined with straw, but she never uses it. She will lay outside on the frozen ground during a snow storm for hours and let the snow completely cover her. When she is covered in snow she will come back inside the house and THEN shake the snow off.
I'm just courious as to why your shepherd has to live outside? I have a shepherd and a bulldog, and both are indoor dogs.
Aw, you have a sheperd and a bulldog? That's the kind of pair I want! What kinds of each? Those two terms are actually a bit generalized, hehe. For me, a german sheperd and a american bulldog/Staff would be my ideal.
