He is only 3 but he used to always have to be where we are and now he goes in the bedroom and lays on the bed when we are in the other room. He still seems his normal energetic self and he usually stays with us in the bedroom at night. Why the change?

After a certain age, all my dogs just wandered off to sit wherever they are most comfy.

Sometimes in the same room with us, sometimes in a room with a cool floor, etc.

When our dogs started doing that we put up baby gates to keep them in or out of certain rooms.

He's not a puppy anymore and he's comfortable being content with himself and his surroundings, you should be happy...

One of my old foster dogs was spending her days in my bedroom when the rest of us were in the rest of the house. I put a super comfy dog bed in my office and she is now snoozing away a few feet from me.

What breed is your dog? Sometimes that plays a factor. Have you changed anything recently, i.e. routine, jobs, new person or pet in the house?

Breed definitely plays a factor. My sharpei mix almost always has to be in the same room with us, I think because he is "protecting" us from invaders. My other dog, a chow-chow mix (known to be aloof) tends to snooze somewhere on his own.

LOL Sawyer does this at night sometimes. If we are staying up "late" he takes him self to bed.
Sometimes, during hot summer months he likes to lay in the kitchen or bathroom by himself because the floor is cooler.
I used to get upset over it but I realized, Sawyer is a very independent dog and he shows me plenty of affection but sometime he needs his space and his routine If we are not in line with the usual routine he'll continue on without us. lol

My Dobie is 3 and he will stay with me in my room for a little while but then go back into the living room and get on his couch next to the fireplace. Since he's gotten older he does this. When he was younger he was right up my ass 24/7. Be thankful. I know I am lol.

Maybe you just got boring and he figured it was better to amuse himself.
