I saw a dog swallow a piece of thoroughly boiled chicken thigh skin which had parts of several quill feathers still attached to it, tonight.

Is this dangerous for the dog?

Will the cooked quills be soft enough to go through the digestive tract without causing injury, or, get totally digested?

The owner wants to know if they should have the dog vomit it back up, or not.

BTW, the dog weighs 60 lbs., if that makes any difference.

Can't find any info on this exact issue.

Have you ever seen a dog eat a bird? My cats catch the birds and feed them to the dogs. When I bring them in I can always tell they have been eating birds because their feathery fur faces look so guilty! Now when they eat these birds they eat plenty of feathers and it has never hurt them at all.

Well it's now the morning and I hope the dog is fine. I personally would not let my dogs eat birds or feed them anything with remnants of quills in them. I would guess that they could cause an issue in the digestive tract. I don't know if they will but I think they could and IMO not worth the risk.

They are all descendants of wolves so.........

Boiled would make them even easier to digest.

This MAY be true about quills (I have no idea), but this is completely untrue about bones. Dogs should NEVER chew/ eat any sort of cooked bones.
