Has anyone had good luck with preventative home remedies for urinary tract infections? Our oldest girl is 9 1/2 years and in November, she had a UTI. Took her to the vet, paid about $300 for antibiotics, and it cleared up. Now she seems to have another one. Her cycle over the years seems to be when she becomes anxious about things (change), she develops these.

While we will take her to the vet again, it isn't a budget-friendly situation when the frequency flares up. So, wondering if anyone has seen good results personally with some additional foods/supplements to help prevent them? She has some stomach sensitivities so she is on a grain-free diet, too.

That's a tough thing. I was going to say there are some prescription diets you could put her on to help prevent the UTI. Hills makes these diets. I know you say she is sensitive but you could try.

Sophie would get them now and again. She now takes a cranberry pill every morning in her food after the vet approved it and we haven't had a problem in years. I just buy the softgel ones at Costco for her and put it in with her kibble, it's 300mg, she weighs about 70lbs.

Thank you! Definitely going to give that a try. I don't have a Costco membership - I am assuming I can find them online so I will take a look

Cranberry tablets, apple cider vinegar, vitamin C, and probiotics. Other things you can do is to make sure her vulva area is kept clean, change her water everyday, and wash her food bowls everyday. Also, vets often overlook recessed vulvae when dealing with recurrent UTIs. My dog is about to start a special Royal Canin diet to prevent crystals from forming in her bladder.
