This has been debated before. It depends on too many circumstances. As a rule I would say NO.

For all the hype about pit bulls, I wouldn't wager on any domesticated dog taking on a wolf. I suspect they (dogs and wolves) would actually mostly avoid each other if possible, even with the territorial instincts of the wolf.

FYI, pit bulls are 30-60 pound dogs, and wolves are significantly larger.

Maybe they looking for a dog that has a chance to survive a wolf attach ... maybe they live in Wolf country.
