The big question is whether or not The Office of the State Veterinarian will decertify them as a shelter, which would prohibit them from having an employee euthanize animals. Most municipal shelters have a tech who is trained and certified, most small rescues do not and use the services of a vet when one of their animals must be euthanized.
I suppose they could try and get local vets to do the job but in 2014 they killed over 2400 cats and dogs and I think they would have a hard time finding someone willing to kill nearly 50 animals a week. I don't know if they would simply move to another state and continue with their awful policy.
How do they justify that? Aren't they supposed to be pro animal rights?
I hate to admit it but this is the 1st I've heard this side of the organization.
Glad you are now in the know. We dog showing types have known this about PETA for many years. We've tried to educate our animal loving friends, explaining to them that when they donate to HSUS they are really donating to kill animals. HSUS is in bed with PETA and is the recipient of many, many dollars donated as a result of their heart-wrenching TV ads. Hello! Does anyone wonder how they can spend so much money on ads when local shelters are scrambling to make ends meet? HSUS spends basically nothing on saving animals and nearly everything on their executives' salaries and in overseas tax shelters. PETA justifies their behavior because their platform is that no animal should be kept as a pet or as livestock and if they are then they are better off euthanized. They feel all animals should be free. This is also the rationale behind PETA's unlawful release of crated dogs at dog shows. When this occurred in my area many years ago I put my showing temporarily on hold.
The best donation you can make is to your local shelter or breed rescue group. Those folks are in the trenches saving and re-homing dogs.
Too many of us remember the anti fur in fashion OETA. We have not been made aware of how they don't believe in companion animals at all, take puppies off people's porches and kill them, "rescue" from shelters, immediately kill them behind retail businesses and dump carcasses in dumpsters. Stay informed people. They are terrorists in the truest sense of the word.
PETA is a despicable bunch; HSUS is just as bad.
This isn't new, has been going on for quite a while.
Their reprehensible practices need to get more attention from the media and public.
They make great tear jerker commercials. They know how to make you feel guilty and send them checks. Then they take that donation and use it to make more commercials to get more money.
PETA and HSUS are nothing more then huge money churning organizations that don't help animals but they do help themselves!
So glad people are waking up and taking a good hard look at them. Next on the list of groups to be wary of... those importing dogs from overseas as "rescues" and begging for your money to help take care of them. What? There are no dogs here to help? We now have to bring them in from other countries?
Glad to know our problems are solved!!!
