I think felony charges are in order. These dogs are expensive to train and very valuable..not to mention the horrible suffering.

It was an accident. Officers and their dogs are no different than us dog owners, they become part of their family. The officer feels badly enough, I don't think it would be right to ruin his life with a felony conviction.

I don't understand how anyone can leave a dog or a child in the car, and never will.

If you are so stressed, tried or distracted that you leave your K9 partner in the car, you definitely shouldn't be on duty as a police officer and carrying a loaded gun.

An accident is forgetting to turn your phone off in the hospital. Or spilling your coffee on your keyboard. Letting an animal you're responsible for suffer and die isn't an accident, it's an act of cruelty and should be treated as such.

Let's see now.....if I were to kick a Police K-9, I'd be charged with assaulting an officer.....but an officer causes the death of another officer thru negligence ....???

I hope he dies in a similar -- or worse -- manner. This sickens me.
