Looking at adopting the guy in the middle, any guesses on what he's mixed with?

Does the foster have any idea? Looks like Rotty with those markings and big block head.

I disagree with the Rott. Not with those tiny feet.

He's got hound, probably beagle, and maybe some jack russel terrier or rat terrier. The white one next to him is definitely Jack Russel. If they are the same litter, then yours has jack russel terrier, too.

The Foster has it listed as "lab mix", I think that is the one breed I don't see in him!

I don't either, but for insurance reasons, you may want to stick with "lab mix."

More info: some communities and insurance companies have problems with certain breeds of dogs. It varies, but sometimes rotties make the list.

LOL, yes I will always call it a "lab mix" in those situations! My old dog was a husky/shepherd/something mix, never dreamed she would be on a "bad" list

Anyone ever heard of an Appenzell Mountain Dog? The coloring is very similiar.

Yes, but I don't think you'd be finding those puppies in a US rescue.

I think it more likely someone was looking to breed a "tough" dog for guarding or fighting. That's why I'm thinking a rottie mix. The muzzle and stocky body don't say Jack Russel/Beagle mix to me, but listen to the bark. If there's beagle, that'll be apparent soon enough. If it's a climber, that'll be apparent soon, too.

beagle and/or jack, and probably some bully judging by those paws and that head, id say expect something in the 40-55lb, medium buld range, potentially with a wider head

id look at jack russel x beagle mixes for the primary idea of what hell look like, then add a little bit of width to the chest and face.
