Thinking about traveling with my dog, never have done so. Then I thought of the potential risk of my dog getting fleas or ticks in a hotel if it's designated for dogs to stay in. My dog does not go to dog parks, kennels, or other high risk areas, so this thought does concern me. I don't want to come home with my dog bringing fleas or dog ticks (which can breed indoors). If you go to hotels with your dogs, what has been your experience? The hotel is a Best Western chain that has a great reputation, no bed bug complaints against them either.

I worked as a Maid at 2 different hotels & BOTH had Fleas from dogs. On the other side I traveled with my dogs to shows No Fleas. So I say 50/50.

theres ALWAYS a risk, but your dog should be on some kind of preventative anyway (natural, frontline, soresto collar, ect...)...and in those cases should prevent the pet fomr picking up an infestation...

We have traveled for over 15 years with our dogs, never had a problem. We don't have fleas and ticks where we live but I do put a preventative on them when we travel since it is a problem in most areas.

This is not a problem that has ever crossed my mind. If it's a huge concern, put them on Revolution or some other preventative treatment. My dogs have gotten both fleas and ticks before, but the problems were always resolved within a day or two with quick treatment. They once got mange from playing near (not even in) a fox's den, which was a huge surprise- but again, quickly resolved.

I would say the odds are low to none.

I would guess that the odds are pretty high in the south. But Advantix II is supposed to kill off and repel all stages of fleas, so a few days after application of the product your dogs should be safe and not bring anything viable home. I would never worry about getting ticks from other dogs.

If your dog is on preventive medication, then the risk should be extremely low.
We traveled cross country with our two big dogs three times, and it was not a problem for us at all.
