I'm sad today...my GSD Alex had to be put down a year ago today. I can't believe it's been a year. I miss her every day.
It's amazing to me how they work their way into your heart. I knew the second she didn't feel well.
Even as her health failed she would still stumble into the room with her tail wagging and her ears flattened for her head to be scratched. On her last day she still growled at the commercials with animals on them (she loved tv).
I've never trusted any dog more than I have her. She had such a stable personality. Always confident. Loved kids and cats. Hated squirrels.
She was a good girl. I wish I could just pet her one more time.
Nobody likes those kinds of anniversaries, so sorry you're feeling bad.
Why don't you try a happy new anniversary from now on,,,,ready. How about the anniversary of when she came into your life, and how happy she made you, and how happy you made her, from the beginning of your life together.
That's one that will make you happy for her not suffering anymore.
She must of been a wonderful companion.
That's a great idea nan.
I can still see her pulling on her leash, curious about the ocean, digging like there was the greatest treasure down there. She LOVED swimming and the ocean, and it was the first place I took her as a puppy. We got her a "playmate" (a male Maltese) and she treated him as if her were made of glass.
We rescued a little mutt six months ago and she's helped fill my heart back up. I'm looking at her goofy face right now.
I didn't even think it would hit me as hard as it did today. I just started looking at my Alex's picture and BAM I got so boohooey.

Awww, I really feel for you! My Cleo is a 14-year old beagle mix and her health is starting to fail. I dread "that" day. It's good to remember all the good times and the fact that you gave Alex a wonderful life, which she seemed to reciprocate. There's just nothing like a dog's love!
What did she die from? I'm dealing with lymphoma and a dog that's acting as healthy as a horse. This is killing me.
