Hi all - this weekend we noticed a black/dark bloody bump under our 13 year old lab's ear. We thought it could be a tick but it's definitely part of her. Could it be a blood blister? Something else we haven't considered? We have an appointment this week but wanted to see if anyone has seen something like this before! It's very dark except on small spot looks skin colored.

That's a tick. Coat it liberally with Vaseline and it will fall off.

It could also be a simple skin tag. People get them too. I would leave it alone or ask your vet about removal. They are only a problem if they catch on something or rub on a sensitive tissue nearby.

I agree that it could be a skin tag. Older dogs frequently get them on or around the face and head. My last rescue dog (14 years old) had one under her eye -- it looked almost like a tick because it was attached at only one end but my vet confirmed it was a skin tag.

You should leave it alone and have your vet look at it to confirm what it is, especially if it's bloody. A skin tag isnt bloody unless it gets irritated from being scratched.

Thanks all! We took her to the vet today and they tried to FNA it and found it suspicious so they hacked it off and sent it to the lab. Here's hoping!!
