He is 1 and pretty much trained. Usually he is in his crate at night and is quiet. He sometimes starts barking around 5 am around time we get up and doesn’t have accidents in his crate. He is fine in the evening. We take him out around 9 or 10 pm. The nights we let him sleep with us he usually tries to wake us or sleeps until we do but a few times he has just jumped down and pees and poops. Not sure why he does this in the morning but never does in his crate or in the evening.

So how many hours after his 9 or 10 pm walk do you wake up and take him out again? And you have not used the bathroom either in this period of time, right?

Life with pets is not so different than life with kids or any being dependent on you. No matter when you go to sleep you have to wake up to feed and walk the pets. (Cats can be easier in that regard with their litter boxes). Dogs love you and don't want to do the wrong thing and really don't want you angry with them.

So get up early, walk your dog, give him breakfast and go back to sleep if you want.

Poor dog. He TRIED to tell you he needed to go out. You ignored him. He doesn't want to make a mess but he had no other choice. The time came. You are setting him up to fail and to be punished for it.

Because of my crazy work schedule i take my pupper out every morning at 415 when im leaving for work. Shes sleepy and slow and doesnt really want to but she goes as soon as i take her out. On the weekends i want nothing more than to sleep, and i still get up at 5 (i sleep a little extra) and take her out, because ive trained her bladder so there is an expectation. You have to do the same

Go back to the basics... including a late night pre-bedtime visit to the designated squirt spot.
