We just got a new puppy from a rescue group. I keep getting asked what kind of dog she is but I have limited knowledge of dog breeds so I just say some mixed breed. Our other dog is a yellow lab mix so that's easy. The foster mom said she could be Brittany spaniel mix while the other lady from the rescue said she didn't think so. The vet records say Chihuahua mix which I'm sure was a mistake. She is about 18 weeks old now and 20 lbs.
What do you think? Or maybe suggest what I can tell people.
Just from looks alone, I'd guess some Jack Russell Terrier mixed with something to make him larger, like Pit, as already suggested.
But I also agree about getting a DNA test (you can get saliva swab tests on Amazon). One thing that's helpful about those (assuming that they're at least somewhat accurate) is that they can help with training, too. The appearance is only one way that various breeds are expressed. You could have a mixed breed that LOOKS very much like one, but behaves strongly like another that's not apparent on the surface. And so they may have "hidden" behavior or motivation strengths /preferences that would be good to know about as you're training.
I don't see any pit or pit mix in there at all. Jack Russell or rat terrier - yeah. Brittany? I don't think so, but who knows! Chihuahua mix? Again, I don't think so.
To the questions, I would answer: "Just a cutie mutt!" With pride, of course! The DNA tests can be useful, if you want to go that far.

I'll probably do the DNA testing but not now. The priority is to get all her supplies first.
Some breeds love water; some breeds really don't. It might help narrow down.
