We have a houseguest for the night. Due to the storm coming tomorrow, her mom is unable to come home from the hospital. She is an RN.

Normally when we keep her, I leave her at her house and just go to her a bunch throughout the day. We are supposed to have lots of snow and ice tomorrow, so I brought her to our house. I didn’t want to risk not being able to get to her safely.

I tried keeping her in a crate in our living room. She just barked loudly.

I tried letting her sleep in a dog bed next to my bed. She just paced the room, whimpering and panting. Jumping on my bed repeatedly. I had to ask to get down. Dogs don’t sleep in beds here. I already have three cats in the bed.

So I tried the cage next to the bed. She has been up all night. Barking at every sound. Which sets off one of our dogs a 100 lb Great Dane puppy.

Any suggestions? It’s 1 am and I am tired.

Something of your Mom's for the dog to sleep with? Maybe her scent will be calming to her. Just a thought.

Dogs know things ... IF you are tense & upset they will be also. I thinking she missing her mom & home. She could feel she been abandoned. Just go with it.. naps help! I hope the roads clear soon... maybe a visit from "mom" would help even if she still needs to work. Or you can get to the dogs home Take her with you but bring her back with her toys or something for her owners. PLEASE make sure is Safe to drive!

The roads aren’t safe. She did bring toys from home. Her mom is stuck at a hospital over an hour away on dry nice days.

She is going to do her best to make it home this evening. Pup seems to have settled a bit but she is definitely feeling out of sorts.

I agree, an tee-shirt from the laundry bag might help, but time will be the only cure. She is just homesick and doesn't understand.

Thank you so much for helping her.

Well no one is going any where just sleep when the dog does. Moms with kids do it ALL the time!

Nice. Kudos sir for keeping the dog company. I guess she won't sleep knowing that the place and scent are unfamiliar. But good job for doing that.
