Told myself that after Sammy died, I'd eventually find the ugliest, meanest dog that no one else wanted, but then this happened. Here's King Ivan Snowball:
I bought a drop spindle a couple of weeks ago, and between Ivan and my Maine Coon, I can probably get enough yarn for a couple of sweaters worth at least.

That baby is absolutely adorable!!! Congratulations!!
Thanks. I actually found him on Craigslist almost two years ago. I wasn't really looking for another one yet, but I'm nosy, so I check CL a lot. He was 10 months old when I got him. The person who had him had gotten him for breeding purposes but had a change of heart about running a professional kennel. She was young and didn't really know what she was doing.

So, tell us Met, just how much fur can you groom off an Eskimo in summer anyway?
To answer this more seriously, though, you really shouldn't cut their fur at all beyond a fairly light trim, if that. The fur keeps them cool in summer (not that we're ever anywhere warm anyway). I usually get a couple of brushfulls of shedded undercoat, which is what I'm going to play around with spinning into yarn.
We had an American Eskimo when I was growing up...unfortunately he had distemper or something and my parents put him down (they probably lied about what really happened, lol), but he is still a fond memory for mel!
I used to have a half eskimo half lhasa. He was a good and sweet boy. Your dog is darling. :-)
Now that's an interesting combination -- must have been very cute.
