I just want to say Thankyou to all of you out there that take care of our pets when we are gone. Be it Pet sitters or Kennel workers some of you really Rock!

One of my patients last night was an older man that came to Santa Barbara for a weekend leaving his beloved dog at a kennel. Well his weekend did not go well and he ended up in the hospital and has been quite sick and missing his dog big time as he says " she is my baby". The Kennel where the dog is found out and someone took the time to take a bunch of photos of his dog some with her " boyfriend" who is a cute little dog too and sent them to him at the hospital so he could see she was fine. I can not say how happy that has made this man.

I have seen the same thing before with a cancer patient we had and I think he was just hanging on for his dog. He ended up in the hospital for a long time and the people at the Kennel were forever bringing him new photos and even arranged a visit with the dog. The man got better and went home and about 2 months later was back, I asked him how his dog was and tears filled his eyes, he said " oh you don't know? " It turns out after a couple weeks at home the dog followed him out to say goodbye to a friend that was leaving. They were standing in the street at the side of the friends car.A car came by and hit and killed his dog! Well the man died a few days after I saw him. I like to believe that what happened happened for a reason. The dog dies so that he would be free to die too rather then suffer like he had been doing with his cancer.And the dog would be there to greet him when his soul continued on its journey.

Thanks to those of you that care for our pets and really do understnad the bond we have to them.

Ditto here, without them we could not function, I feel extremely lucky as my sitter has a degree in animal science and years of experience and she's a neighbor too.

I could not work and run my home efficiently if it wasn't for the wonderful job of my petsitter and her staff. Thanks for starting this post.

Absolutely! A good pet sitter/kennel is worth their weight in gold.

Awesome story Dashdog,thanks for sharing.

I've worked at a boarding hotel for six years now and prior to that I was in rescue work. I saw someting truly heartwarming the other day, I happened to be behind a client while traveling to work the other day. The closer we were to our hotel I could see the dog's excitement groing; tail wagging and trying to get up front to 'mom & dad'. It was if they couldn't get him there fast enough.

Just this week we had a group of seniors at our facility for an in depth tour and some educational points. One of our clients checked his dog in yesterday and told me that his dad had quite the kick out of seeing everything and knowing that he's "Tucker's grandad" to us. We had a great time visiting with them and they got to realize that we're not just sticking a dog in a cage, nor a cat for that matter.

Thanks for noticing us, it helps that I love the critters. As I told one client that I ran into last night who lost her dog this year, it's also hard on us, we don't have just our pets at home. As large as our clientele is we have over a thousand pets that get into our hearts.
