This past week I was given the chance to bring a new family member into our household, and I did. I was told that this little guy is an Australian Shepherd, although we are in love and it doesn't matter, I was wondering if anyone here thinks that that is what he is.
I haven't had a dog since I was a kid, but have had cats forever. We were the last chance for this guy (my little town doesn't even have a shelter), and I happily took him in. I had been talking to my DH about getting a dog for the last six months or so, the day he showed up I had been making a list of dog names for when the time came, so the timing was perfect. I was told that he is 6-7 months old. He is very sweet, a little shy and already a little too protective of me.....I'm already working on that. He is going to his first ever Vet vist next week, I hope all goes well. I'm pretty sure that he hasn't had a very nice life, and I'm hoping to change that.
I have an aussie and she looks like your new addition.. mine is mostly black and white with one blue eye. I'm sure he'll have a great life with you. Best wishes and hope you have great fun together. BTW he is perfect!
He looks a lot like my late black lab/chow mix. Does he have a purple-spotted tongue? If so, he has some Chow in him. He's sure a handsome fella and lucky to have you!
Not sure about the breeding - aussies pretty much don't look distinct which is a good thing in some ways, but he looks aussie to me.
But the tongue thing about purple/black on the tongue having chow in it is not necessarily true. A lot of purebred dogs have dark spotting on the tongue and mouth and have no chow in them.
he looks alot like a border collie! But has the muzzle of a Aussie so I don't know. Beautiful dog regardless!!!!!!
Usually, Aussies bounce around and run at that which they stalk and border collies STALK ...see what he does it might help you determine. When you throw the ball does he watch or does he bounce?
so happy you rescued one!
I have a aussie/sheltie/boder collie ...we call him a collie mix and are in love with him.
They are so much fun!
gotta second world citizen ...you just adopted a forever toddler. Exercise the brains because the body never slows down!!!!!
