I know she loves the dog but she hasn't even brought her to the vet once. Her nails were so long that my daughter said she walked funny. I imagine that they hurt. My ex is a joke when it comes to caring for animals. I wouldn't get a dog when I was married to him but he would take in any stray that someone was trying to get rid of.

If you get along with your x's wife I would try to convince her to do something...do not know what though. Obviously it sounds like a no win situation and in the end the poor doggie will suffer. I will say a prayer for the little chi! Why do people like this own a pet? I ask myself over and over. Like Teatimes neighbor. UGH! I would snag the dog but then these kind of people just get another one.

Good luck!! Man...<serious shake of head>

I am going to try to talk to her tonight but I don't know what good it will do. I think prayers might be all we've got.

She won't talk about it. I gave her my vets name and number and told her to call him. We'll see.

If the teats are swollen she's close to giving birth. A chi knocked up by a poodle mix will probably die without vet intervention. That's why the males in chis are usually smaller, because the females have such a hard time delivering as it is.
Poor little girl. I really dislike many humans so much. I just don't get the 'it's only a (insert animal type here)' attitude.
I wish I had an answer for you. But no, ASPCA won't do anything. The sad fact is even our government has the 'it's only a dog' attitude. They're not given any rights or acknowledged as a living, breathing, feeling being. They are stictly property.

Not only is there a high risk of the pups being too large, there's a higher risk of them having or getting Parvo being the mom has never been vaccinated. This happened recently here. A Chihuahua gave birth and the pups became very sick. They were brought into the vets and all but two pups died. The owner didn't want to take responsibilty for the pups, only the mother. Two of the techs took the pups and paid for their treatment. My dd now petsits one of them to help it w/ socialization. Parvo is a serious disease! I detest irresponsible pet owners!

I just found out that she has had her puppy shots. They didn't get her until she was 3 months old and the previous owner had it done. I think she is in labor. Daughter says she's acting funny. Poor girl.

I hope someone's there w/ this pup and knows how to open the puppies' sacks as they're being born and cut the cord etc - if they can come out w/o a c-section - also given her young age, she'll be clueless as to the whole mothering thing and will need someone to stay w/ her and help her w/ the puppies. I hope they have a quiet area where she can rest and get used to the puppies etc. I also hope someone is responsible and steps up to the plate to take her to the vet if she's in labor too long.

My 23 year old daughter lives there and is home with her 3 year old son. She doesn't have experience with puppies since any dog I have ever had was fixed. She does have EMT training and common sense so that's better than nothing. As far as someone taking her to the vet, I just don't know if my ex will "allow" that. To him, spending money on a dog is like throwing money away. You just don't do it.
