My ex has a Chihuahua that is pregnant. Actually his wife bought her. Anyway, first the backround. My ex doesn't believe in spending money on a dog. It's just a dog anyway. The dog has never been to the vet. Not on any flea/heartworm meds. Obviously not been fixed. My 15 daughter just convinced them to let her cut the dogs nails. She could hardly walk. So know you know that they are terrible pet owners and shouldn't even have her.
This little girl is around 10 months. About 2 months they "took care" of my ex's nieces's 2 dogs. One is a unaltered male poodle mix. About 3 times the size of the Chihuahua. Apparently they did the deed and now the Chi is pregnant. Her ***** are enlarging but that is all I know.
I have never had a small dog but heard that Chihuahuas have a hard time delivering pups. Since she was mated with a dog much larger than her, will she be able to deliver them? I know he won't pay for a vet to perform a c-section. I feel so bad but not sure if I can do anything.
Please let me know your thoughts and any advice.

If he does not care about the dog....take her away. This is a horrible situation for this chihuahua. They have a hard time giving birth. Did she ever have her shots? I would take her away from him. There is a possibility she could not make it thru the birthing process. She will need someone experienced to be around her. I am so tired of hearing about irresponsible pet owners. Not offending you here because you care. I would get that dog out of that home asap if possible.

Blondie - I would love to take the dog from them but he is not going to just turn her over to me. He is my ex for a reason. He's a jerk!!!! No she hasn't had her shots. I stated that they have NEVER even taken her to the vet.
No you didn't offend me. I know I am a very good pet owner. My lab has a hole in his heart and he is on 7 medications and sees the vet regularly. I love my furbaby!!!
I need some practical advise. If I tried to take the dog he would probably shoot me. Seriously. Would the SPCA do anything?

I am really worried about her. I'm going to try to talk to his wife tonight. I know they don't have much money. I barely get child support. I can't afford it with all the vet and medicine bills that I already have from my firbaby.

If she really cares for the dog...maybe a woman to woman talk might sway her to get her to the vet. How far along is the dog? 63 days or so is gestation. She needs to be prepared with a box and heating pad...among other things. Make sure she has a vet # handy should they run into problems. It could mean life or death for the mama and pups
