Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection mostly seen in California and other areas in the southwest US. It is primarily inhaled and produces a very serious pneumonia, but can also, through the blood, can cause meningitis. There are several effective medications for treating this infection. It's called 'valley fever' because it was first identified in the San Joaquin valley in California.
