My dog is bothered by the following noises:

-Smoke alarm
-The sound of a lighter when you flick it
-The broom when you sweep
-The weed eater
-Lawn mower
-The guitar

She starts chasing her tail, barking and howling when she hears these noises. I try to use Ceaser's method of trying to pull her out of this state when she becomes fixated on these noises. It works at times and sometimes it does not.

Any idea on why these bother her? Also, does your dog dislike certain noises?

I have the world's most noise-sensitive pug: everything starts him on a barking spree: the stopwatch on '60 Minutes,' dogs on TV, horses on TV, cartoons on TV, the Nasonex bee, the Chantix ad with the hare and tortoise, Roadrunner, spray cans being used, the street cleaners that come by, loud trucks, childrens' voices, birds singing on TV....

My current dog isn't bothered by noises that much, but my previous dog hated the smoke alarm and also AC/DC's song "TNT". When that song came on the radio, or if I played it on the stereo, she'd start growling and run over to the speakers and just bark at them until it finished. Never did figure out why she hated that song so much.

LOL about the TNT song!
When I play my guitar, my dog flips out. She starts howling. Who knows, she may be quite the singer some day.

Yeah, it got to the point where all we'd have to do is whisper "oy oy oy" at her and she'd start growling and barking at the speakers.

When my Parrot screams both my chihuahua and pitbull sing and howl!
My rescue lab mix....she runs for the hills when she hears the vacuum, oven door closing, snapping plastic off of water bottle, dryer and washer door, emptying dishwasher, closing French screen doors, hair dryer, just about every noise spooks my poor girl.

Any high-pitched tone or beep sends my dogs into either panic or high anxiety. Things like the smoke alarm, any end-of-battery tone, my UPS on the computer. The fire engines going past us make my GSP howl like the hound he is! It's was funny to me that he didn't start the howl until he was almost 2 y/o. The other dogs just mostly ignore it, they will lift their heads for a second then go back to whatever they were doing. But the GSP follows the sound intently as he joins in.

We have a golden retriever, 4 years old now. On the 4th of July we travel 200 miles to spend it with family. The dog is so big and hyper we have to take him with us everywhere we go because no one wants to babysit. We get together with a big group just outside of town to shoot fireworks and have to leave the dog tied up to our pickup (naturally with the emergency break set and all safety observed) and leave all doors and/or windows open so he doesn't overheat. The poor guy gets on the floor on the drivers side and stays there for the duration. We know when one of the fireworks sounds is too much because the break lights on the truck come on. Little s**t chewed my floor mats into tiny pieces last year.
