This is my third collie, but it's the first time I've seen a puppy of mine do this.
We got this pup at 3 months old. She's 4.5 months now. Great reputable breeder, etc.
Twice I have seen her pee in submission. Once was outside the Petco when some strange lady bent to pet her (lots of people bend to pet her with no such consequences - she loves people). The last time was at the park yesterday - when she ran up and greeted some other friendly dogs to play.
Seriously? Is there a chance this will be an isolated puppy thing? If not, how can we avoid it turning into a grown-up problem? B/c I have friends with big, full grown boxers that do this, and it's not pretty.
Thanks, viral. Looking back after reading that article, it makes much more sense that it was excitement urination. This puppy demonstrates very few submissive behaviors in general...that confused me. She must've been really excited and it had been a while in both circumstances since she'd peed.
When I first adopted Dash he use to pee when I greeted him, he was 1 year old so anytime I came in the house from having been gone I would not greet him but opened the door and told him to go out and after he peed he could come back in as then he did not do the submissive urination. It eventually went away .
Stan, I didn't mean that as an attack. I just was describing my experience with this. Sorry if I came across the wrong way.
No, Great! I didn't take it that way at all. I was just talking about how we try to tell our family to go along with how we're trying to train our dogs, but they totally ignore us. Even when I tell them basic stuff like, "Oh, don't give her any table scraps, she's allergic to x, y, and z." Next thing you know, my dad is sneaking her that exact thing under the table!
