I had to start this thread because I have a new understanding of how difficult and absolutely gut-wrenching it can be when you work with animals, both in rescue and in the medical world. I recently started working as a vet tech at an animal emergency center, and believe me when I tell you I get home and cry my eyes out sometimes. I will not get too graphic here, but it is HARD to keep your emotions under control when you see the state some of these animals are in...something has to click in, and you have to focus on healing/mending/fixing them and push away the part of you that wants to scream out and burst into tears at the pain and discomfort they must be feeling. So THANK YOU to all the rescuers who pick the ticks off, shave them down & give them a bath even though it is a tedious & rather yucky process...to the people who volunteer at shelters and see the effects of neglect and abuse every day...to the vets & vet techs who dedicate their lives to saving animals...to the teachers & trainers who do whatever they can to enlighten others about everything from nutrition to responsibility...to the foster parents who open their homes and hearts to animals, even if they have special needs...thank you all, I know a lot of you are on this forum and I just want you to know how much you are needed and appreciated!

My thoughts exactly. You've chosen a career field that is so vitally important to the care and health of animals, and it's seriously underpaid.

Kudos to you for doing your part. Rescue is a huge process and requires the efforts of many for it to come full circle. Every link counts, from the person who writes a donation check to the transporter, driving endless miles to get a dog to safety. From the ones coming the pounds and shelters pulling dogs to save to the rescue placement coordinators, going over application after application, checking references and arranging home visits. From the vets and techs who offer their time and services, to the ones who drop off bags of dog food, extra crates, and bedding to foster homes.

I know I've left out many parts of that circle, and I apologize if I missed YOUR crucial part in the process. I know that working in rescue and fostering is one of the most rewarding things I've ever, ever done.

Save a life - adopt a pet.

Thank you all for your kind words as well! It is true, every single role is important, no matter how great or small...it all counts and all helps animals around the world every single day. The benefit is in knowing you have made a difference and allowing your soul to experience the joy it can only feel when in service to others out of love.

Welcome to the Vet Tech world! Honestly, it is a very rewarding career that we have. It makes you feel so great when you can help these animals. It is OK to cry too, I do. That was very nice what you said in your post and I agree with you!
