So usually no matter what time I go to bed, the dogs are ready to get moving by 6:00am. We all three fell asleep in the living room last night and woke up at 3:00. Took a fast visit outside and then went to bed. They slept in to 7:00 I feel like I have missed half the day.
My dogs sleep in with my hubby. I am up at 5 or 6am every day. 7am would be definitely sleeping in for me, and later than that would seem like half my day's gone
I like the quiet in the morning with no one to bother me as I sip my coffee and read the news.

Same deal for Artie. It doesn't matter when he was last out, he has *his* times to go out. Our last walk of the night starts at 8:30. Even if he was out at 8:00 and then sleeping on my lap, when 8:30 comes around, it's GO TIME! Silly monkey.
We typically get up in the mornings at around 6:00. Sometimes 6:30. But even if I've taken him, the night before, at midnight (after our 8:30 walk), it remains a 6 or 6:30 wake up.
It's the way they're wired. They like habit and rituals. Artie's lucky that I'm an early riser, often up before he is.
It's more about rituals than need once they are older. My dogs will sleep until I get up. It doesn't matter how long I sleep in. The routine is that once I'm out of bed, they go outside and then are fed. If I woke up at 5am, they'd expect that. If I woke up at 9am, they'd expect that. They're not sitting around waiting for me until 9am wishing to go out. They are sleeping.
Every time anyone walks in the door from being away from the house, they expects to go outside even if they were just outside 5 minutes prior with a family member who was home all day. The rituals for going outside are the waking up of someone and the arrival of someone. It's hilarious because they can go outside 4 times in a half hour if 4 people arrive home spread out over that half hour.
When I have a work schedule, it's like clockwork and they readily adapt to whatever schedule I have.
