I am moving out of state this weekend and my Malti-Poo rescue knows something BIG is up!! He isn't acting out, just watches me and stays in his chair. He travels well, so I'm not worried about the 5 hour car ride, and really not too concerned about the stay in a hotel, as long as he can sleep with me - he's fine.
We're moving from a house to an apartment and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions that will help him acclimate to the apartment.
If your Maltipoo is anything like mine, he is probably clingy? When we moved from one apartment to another, she had a hard time the first week and was extra clingy. We tried a hotel once and apparently she barked the whole time I was gone because the room next door complained to the front desk.
I'm planning a big move soon and I'm going to pad in an extra few days to stay at home and start the routine immediately so that she knows it is home. Other than that, just you being there with them is the best you can do. If you don't have a few extra days padded into your move to stay home, I'd leave a sweater or something near his bed or preferred lounging place when you're gone so he knows you're still there.
