A vet visit isd in order- he could go blind in that eye. Or it could be a minor irritation, you can't tell.

thank southernbelle. yup, have the appointment set up already, but I am just curious.

not that this has anything to do with it.. but conincidentally, we realised his eye became red in the same morning that MY left eye became red due my over-wearing of contact lens

It is most likely conjunctivitis, AKA pink eye. It is usually accompanied by a discharge from the eye. I am not 100% sure, but it may be contagious to humans and vice versa, so you both might have it. Treatment is some antibiotic eye drops, gone in about one week. The vet should also check for any scratches or foreign objects just to be sure.

I concur, it's probably pinkeye. That's the most common cause of red eyes in dogs.

After the vet, make sure you have someone to help you with the antibiotic drops. My puppy had pinkeye, and he REALLY hated those drops. So getting someone to assist you will make things easier.

Then, two weeks later, I got pinkeye. Coincidence? Hahaha. Anyway, my doctor gave me drops... and they burned like you-know-what. Felt a lot worse for puppy after that.

So the moral of that rambling story is it's probably pinkeye, some drops will quickly take care of it, and watch other pets and your family to make sure none of them pick it up from the infected dog.

went to the vet.. and yes, it was conjunctivitis (pink eye). the right eye is infected as well, but at the top and I didn't see it, and not as bad as the left. checked for scratches, and he has a few slight scratches. So he's on antibiotics now, as well as the cone to prevent him from pawing on his eyes. Was also told he should be ok within a week, which I really hope so since he's going to an off-leash boarding over memorial day weekend and I would hate to see him not being able to play with the other dogs. I feel bad for him! He HATES the cone when he had them few years back after he was neutered. But the vet said the cone can be taken off when he's busy (ie. running or playing with us outside)..

Another thing, when the vet was checking on his eyes, he found something INSIDE the left eye, like a 2mm in diameter thing. The vet doesn't know what it is, he said he has never seen it before, but he guessed it's probably something insignificant like fatty deposits .. that he might have it throughout his life... ?? Then again, to be 100% sure, and since the vet also said goldens are prone to cancers, I was referred to the animal eye center.

Not sure if humans get it also, but my daughter has something you can see in her eye (white part) if you look closely. Opthalmologist said it's harmless.

Yea, I would hope it's harmless too.. but you never know. I don't know, I am still thinking if it's worth to make the trip to the animal eye center? Since he'll be seeing the eye specialist there, I would guess the consultation fee itself is going to be rather expensive...
