Just found this on the back of Dylan's leg while I was brushing him....It's rock hard and the size of a marble.
He has a vet appointment tomorrow morning to have it looked at.
Any one ever see anything like this?
Looks like a cyst that he has been chewing on. My 23 year old cat has one on the end of his tail and one on his jaw. I cannot have it removed, because he is too old to stand up to the anesthesia.
On the other hand, it could also be a tumor. You need to have that evaluated right away.
That looks like it could be a mast cell tumor. Don't aspirate the mass, just have them go ahead and remove it. A lot of dogs get mast cell tumors and if you bother the mass with a needle to get an aspirate to send off to see what type it is, you are wasting valuable time. We would always just give them a shot of Benadryl and do surgery later in the day to remove the whole mass + a lot of extra tissue around it. They are VERY reactive masses and are malignant. If that is what this could be, don't play around with time....the sooner it is removed (and sent off to see what type), you could actually be curing your dog!! Don't let him eat breakfast in case they will keep him and remove it that day. It doesn't look like a mass to wait and watch... It absolutely could be a benign type of growth, but when they look like that it is best to just remove it.
Thank you all. My guess, is a mast cell tumor as well. Having just lost his Mom, Mia, in the last few months, this makes me even more nervous. Barely slept last night...which is the reason I'm on the net at 6am . Been up for hours with worry!
So his appt. is at 9:40am.......I didn't think, and have already fed him this morn...Will keep you all posted.
PS. This thing is in a really weird spot....back of his leg, on, his ankle. I know it wasn't there 2 weeks ago....I had groomed him and then he was boarded for 2 weeks. Just noticed it after we got back . So, it is fast growing!
A cyst will transilluminate (transmit light from a penlight held on one side). But solid masses don't. This could be anything. Let us know what the vet thinks.
Good luck at the vet...I pray it is nothing serious and they can remoe it right away...sending prayers & positive energy your way!!!
