My yorkie periodically scoots on his butt after pooping. He does it about 3-4 times a week I notice. I took him the Vet a few months ago and mentioned it and he didn't seem concerned.
I have expressed his glands and he still scoots. There is no mucus or blood in his stool. Also he does not have diarrhea. I give him heartworm medication each month so I don't think it is an internal parasite (however I am not positive) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be?
Take a stool sample into the Vet, and get him/her to look at in under a microscope. Not a hard thing to do, and if its positive for worms, the treatment is simple. If no worms , that would make me think that the dog has some other medical condition, that needs to be investigated.
The current behaviour is not normal, in a healthy dog.
Keep an eye on his poop, looking for segments that are wiggly or look like rice in fresh poop, which would indicate tapeworms. Agree with Canadian citizen about checking stool at the vet.
The only dog I ever had do this (and I've had a large number and several different breeds) had worms (Collie/Shepherd mix). Take a close look at the stool and if you don't see anything, take a sample to the vet.
