My puppy loves to chew on any footwear kept in the backyard. I have lost quite a lot of pairs.
He doesn't seem to bother with any of the ones inside the house, even if they are in plain sight. Just whenever he is in the backyard, he loves to chew them.
Kids go out to play and leave the shoes right there and next day one of the pair is missing. When he is inside, he doesn't even go near the shoes at the front door.
I am thinking of putting a nail in the wall outside and hanging a bag there.
or I should get a closed shoe rack which he can't open.
Any other ideas?
If you need to keep shoes out back, than you need to raise them or put them in a container he can not reach. As a puppy, he does not understand they are off limits to him. Make sure he has other, more suitable chew toys. And please, do not give him old shoes. a puppy can not distinguish between an old wornout shoe and new shoe.
Any kind of enclosed utility box will do. Of course, getting your kids to put the shoes in the box is another training class!
Yeah, we learned our lesson. There aren't any out there now, and so whenever I step out, I have to go back in again, get some footwear and then remember to take them back in every time!!
shelbygirl, you are right. Training kids to put shoes back in is a task in itself
Our female was bad about shoes when she was little. All we could do was put them up.
Then as she got older , she wouldn't chew them but, if she was in the "mood", she would take shoes up on the bed. It was as if she was saying, "look what I could have done".
