That was Skidboot. Yes he was a smart dog - he lived nearby. He died a couple of years ago. His replacement Bodark wasn't nearly as good when we saw him. I had the opportunity to meet him and his owner a few years ago when Skidboot was on Leno and Letterman, etc.. He was the best.

ha!! i KNEW it was skidboot when i started reading your description of how he listens to each command before he acts.....he was one AMAZING dog.....
i have seen several videos of him on you tube.... he was profiled by a texas travel show and was also on animal planet's pet star.....
