Any good suggestion on what I should or should not do about this?

Is it time to put him down or else call the vet about this?
I don't know what it could be except urine. I don't think I would call the vet. Unfortunately you are the only one who can make the decision about euthanasia. It's never easy I've gone though it with several dogs, the only thing that I was ever able to do to come to terms with it is ask myself if the dog is still enjoying life. If not then I think it's time. When I had to have one of my dogs put down his back legs were paralyzed and he had diabetes that couldn't be controlled so he had developed open sores on his legs and paws, but he still loved to eat so on our way to the vet to have him put to sleep I stopped at a drive through and bought him 6 hamburgers and sat in the back seat with him while he ate them. We said our goodbyes and I held him while the vet administered the drugs. I don't regret my decision but at times I still cry when I think about him. But like I said I'm pretty old so this wasn't my first rodeo and from time to time I cry over all my furry kids who have passed.

I have been very worn out here the last two days and nights with Jake. We have been going on truck rides, going for walks and even playing outside. I have been also spending time with my female Dachshund named Jazzmine. I have been doing the same things with her as well as Jake.

I sure do love my two Dachshunds very much. My son even went out and got a little stuffed animal for Jake to lay down with. He told me that if anything happens to Jake he wants that little stuffed animal buried with him. I thought this was so sweet of him to do this.

When can you tell when the medications that your dog is taking is no longer working? I have never been through this before.

What does it mean when your dog usually cuddles up with you at night in bed with you. Then all of the sudden he has been pushing you away along with the other dog that lays with us at night? I am very Confused with this and I am not sure what to do any more. Please help me out with this. I have never had a dog with an enlarged heart. Can my female Dachshund go through the same thing as my male is?

I just wanted to let everybody on here that I will be taking Jake to the vet nest Friday morning to put him down. This was the hardest thing I have ever done with a dog that I have had this long in my life. But I cannot see him going through this and suffering any more.

Well this has been a very hard and upsetting day here for my husband and myself. We have been spending as much time with Jake as we can today and tonight. We take him to the vet at 8:30 A.M. tomorrow to have him put down. This is going to be very hard on me tonight. He sleeps with me every night along with my female Jazzmine. I cannot handle this. I am about ready to cry my eyes out. I am going to be so lost without having Jake sleeping with me any more. But I do know that he will no longer be suffering any more. Wish me good luck being in the room with Jake when they put him to sleep. I will be in there by myself. My husband does not want to go in there with me. :-(

Well My beloved Jake is no longer suffering. He passed away this morning @ 8:45 A.M. He went very peacefully. When I got Jake to the vet this morning they told me that he was dying any way. He would only been alive for just 2 days. The medications stopped working for him. R.I.P. Jake. You will never be forgotten by me. my son. my husband and the many other people that you have touched their lives. Even the vet that has been working with Jake even cried when she got done taking care of Jake. Crying my eyes out here.:-(

I'm so sorry you had to go through this, but it's something most of us who have pets have to face more than once. Get a new fur baby as soon as you can. You will always miss Jake, but a new pet will fill your heart with joy just as Jake did

I have another Dachshund that is a female. I don't want another dog right away. It is going to take sometime for me, the family, and Jazzmine to get used to not having Jake with us any more.

You will know when the time it right.

Be sure to pay extra and loving attention to your Jazzmine. She is prolly missing Jake too. Grieving together can be very healing...talk to Jazzmine. She will understand you.

Godspeed Jake. Run fast and free with your healed body.
