So, my boy Sabre have been itching like crazy. I took him to do blood test for allergies, fearing that some of the raw food he's eating (chicken) might be a problem.
To my surprise, he's extremely allergic to MILK and Dust Mites... that's it. No any other allergies! Which is a relieave at this point.
He doesn't get milk, but ones or twice a month he gets i tablespoon of cottage cheese or yogurt. I don't think that would throw him into itching. So, that leaves me with Dust Mites. How the heck do you get rid of these devils? I clean my house, and i can control them inside, but OUTSIDE, in Florida?
I don't know how else to help this boy, putting him on Benadryl?
Vet told me to look into shots, but she couldn't justify price/or see if this even will help.
Yikes! Dust Mites? LOL...good luck with that! Aren't they everywhere?
I would think the Bendryl would help...but don't sure how long one would want to keep that up. May even build up a resistance?
I thinking there might be somekind of product out there for just this thing. I swear I read in a Dog Fancy an ad about just this thing...Skin-eze or Skin-relieve or something like that I know that doesn't help..but I'll see if I can't find it! Of course, that's not saying it actually works! The vet didn't have any other suggestions?
He gets Ester-C vitamins, B vitamins, Salmon Oil
I don't know what else can boost his Immine system?
He has not had his cottage cheese for over 3 weeks, but he's still itching.
I've seen a lot of the stuff like this Katie, but does it really work?? Dust Mites are never going to go away, no matter how perfect housekeeper you are. Winter is the only thing that keeps him less itchy. I thin i'll move to Alaska! LOL
Hi,
How much was the blood test, if I may ask? Any specific name to this blood test? My dog (Chili) is very susceptible to allergies, ear problems realated to allergies and itchy/red skin. We visit the vet in regards to this problem alone at least once a month. Chili ends up getting a shot, when it' really bad...otherwise benadryl, RX versions of benadryl. Oops, forgot to mention he eats very expensive low allegen food (fyi: i dont make all that much! but this food as a must for him).
Btw, we are looking for a (affordable) vet as we are new to NoVA (tysons) area. Any suggestions?
