My vet told me that as of Jan. 1, 2010, they are going to require canine flu vaccination for all dogs that use their kennel facilities.
My dog is a 15-year-old Dalmatian. As you might guess, that's extremely old for a Dal and she is not in great health. Now when I get a flu shot, I get sick. That might be really bad for my dog. My vet says she hasn't seen any problems with the vaccine, but she admits that she hasn't innoculated any really old dogs, mostly young and some middle-aged.
Has anyone heard of adverse reactions from the vaccine?
You CANNOT get influenza from an influenza vaccine. CAN NOT. The virus is not even WHOLE in the injectable vaccine. It's only the important bits and pieces that let your immune system recognize the virus.
The same is true with the influenza vaccine for dogs. It's made the exact same way.
I get sick as well. Not really sick, I just feel aches and generally bad for a couple days after I get the shot. They give you a pamphlet telling you to expect aches and low grade fever...aka mild flu symptoms. I would think a dog could feel the same side effects.

I got my Princess part one of the two part flu vaccine shot last week. Besides some sneezing episodes she seems to be ok.
