If for some reason immediate poop-scooping isn't possible, you can use a lightweight plastic basket muzzle on the dogs when you can't monitor them. Basket muzzles allow normal panting but don't allow poop-eating. I have fostered poop-eaters and this is the only thing that works for me.

Remember to take the time to train the dog to wear the muzzle. Don't just put it on. Most dogs need training and an adjustment period to accept muzzling. So, first attach the muzzle to the dog's collar for short periods so they get used to having it near them. Then put treats in the basket so they can nuzzle them out. Finally apply the muzzle for short periods and treat, treat, treat! Positive reinforcement and patience will result in the dog's accepting the muzzle and you'll enjoy better smelling dog breath!
