Long story short, one of ours came in pretty well scraped up... blood and a little whimpering and a lame leg. Cleaned her up and applied Neosporin and she is resting. Cuts and punctures are not deep, just bloody but it is congealing.
Felt the leg, no break but not sure of how to check for ligament tear or what else it might be. She is limping but does allow me to check it... a little whimper, though.
The leg bothers me more than the wounds but until I get her to the vet, does anyone have advice regarding Neosporin over Benedryl for the wounds?
Can't vet until tomorrow as we are rural and I don't think this warrants emergency care.
Our German Shepherd has a problem with one leg every once in a while - she had a leg surgery two years ago, so she sometimes scratches her leg ( where the metal pin is ), and sometimes she even makes it bleed. Well, we clean it, and put some neosporin over it. Never had any problems with it.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) does NOTHING for wounds. It's an antihistamine and is ONLY for allergies. Neosporin isn't that great, either. I usually let a scab form. Overall, if the wound has been cleansed, I would let the scab form without any topical antibiotic. That's what I do with human patients, as well.
I was speaking of the Benadryl spray...which is basically Bactine. It for just that, cleansing out wounds. It is antiseptic to kill germs. Both the spray and Neosporin were recommended by my vet. To be used on minor cuts and scrapes.

I'm looking at a bottle that reads for "cleansing of minor cuts and scrapes".
