I purchased what the Tractor Supply Stores call a "Flyer" for my dog this week. It is essentially a soft frisbee - a rigid circle covered with a durable material. Their model is red and yellow with their logo in the center. I have purchased other versions before but what makes me concerned about theirs is that the stiff outer circle is actually clear, plastic tubing. The ones I have purchased previously used a rope to form the circle. My little girl took only half an hour to chew through the covering and bite off a good inch of this tube. Luckily, she is a chewer but her joy comes from making the mess - not eating it. This small plastic piece was the perfect size to lodge in her esophagus or move lower to form a blockage. Because it was clear, it could easily missed on an x-ray. The more I thought about it the more I was concerned. I called my store but no one was working that could address the issue. I called customer service and made my complaint to a representative and requested they be re-evaluated for pet safety. I am hoping they take this seriously but I wanted to give everyone a warning. I will let you know what happens when I am contacted by the company and I plan on speaking with the store managers tomorrow.
I wanted to post a follow-up to my original message concerning this toy. I was able to return the flyer to Tractor Supply Company for a refund, but I that is the only good thing I can say about the store and management. The manager of my store informed me that this product was manufactured in China - a fact that would have deterred my purchase in the first place. I either did not read the tag correctly or it was missing altogether - I really don't remember.
I have since called and written Tractor Supply but have not received ANY response. The manager of the store, as well as the representative of the supposed distributor both assured me they would look into the matter and get back to me. I received no return phone call, no email and no acknowledgement AT ALL!
I would like everyone who buys a similar product to make sure you know what it is made of, no matter what store you find them in or what name is printed on them.
The Tractor Supply is a relatively new store in our area and was very convenient for many items. I was thrilled when they came, but I cannot support a store with has so little concern for it's customers.

Thanks.......Rip has one, yep from Tractor Supply.
The people on the store level have zero ability to reject incoming merchandise (especially corportate logo items) and all they can do is pass it along up the ladder and there are many rungs to that ladder.
But if youo are serious about this and really want to see responsible action taken, here's the steps"
1. Draft a very nicely worded letter that describes the problem with the toy compared to other toys and prior product.
2. Keep all the emotional urrational dribble out of the message, it has to be a letter that on its owns can stand up to all discussion.
3. Attach photos showing exactly what you mean and how it compares to "safe" toys.
4. Acknowledge that you are aware the local store managemtn does not have the authority to not sell corporate branded merchandise.
5. You are asking for theitr help to ensure only QUALITY & SAFE toys are sold to ensure the reputation of TSC isn;t soiled.
Now mail all this to :

You are welcome Driller....it is not worth taking the chance!
Pacific...Thank you for the contact name and address. I do intend to write a logical, concerned letter. I do understand the chain of command and was not expecting or asking that the toys should be immediately taken off the shelf. My intention was to bring my concerns to the correct person. My frustration with the company is the total lack of follow through on the situation. I called customer service several times and I was told he could not give me the name or title of the next person up the chain without that person's approval. The manager promised to get back to me with that information but I was never contacted. Several emails referencing my concerns went unanswered as well. The funny thing is, every time I checked out previously at the register, I was begged (their words) to call in to the company to rate their store a 5 out of 5!
I will keep you posted on the next chapter.
Thankfully no one was hurt. Thanks for the heads up. Good thing your girl doesn't eat her kill!
On a loosely related note, the color (or lack thereof) of an object has no relation to whether an xray would pick it up. That is determined by density of the material.
Thanks Stanman. I stand corrected. I was under the impression something clear would cast less of a shadow on the film.
