I had Jupiter and Jasper on the back porch just a few minutes ago for a little while. I hear banging, and get up to go see whats going on. The banging was Jupiter messing around with a big bottle of Windshield washer fluid!

His teeth punctured very small holes in the handle, and as a result the bottle leaks when turned over on its side. I found the bottle sitting right-side up, but there was a litte bit (Think about the size of a very small, thin pancake) on the floor.
The amount of liquid in the bottle was pretty much the same as before.

HELP! I dont know what to look for to see if he got ahold of enough of this crap to hurt him! He is 50lbs now, I dont know if that matters, but sometimes weight is a factor??

Im so worried right now. The closest pet ER is 3 hours away! What symptoms should I look for?!

Here's a link to an emergency hotline....some of them charge about $50. I've never used a service like this before. I wouldn't know what to tell you otherwise. Hope Jupiter is alright.

Pet Poison Helpline

What is the emergency information on the product itself? There have to be instructions/info on the bottle. Maybe your local ER (human version) hospital could help you if you called with the info on the bottle of fluidl

Take the jug which has the ingredients noted on it and call the emergency hospital. Tell them what the ingredients are and see what they say.

Then, when you and Jupiter get home, put the jug up on a shelf or somewhere he can't get to it. I doubt if he got enough to hurt him, being a 50 lb dog. But just in case, good luck, jupiter!

I called the closest pet hospital...they referred me to that line, but I cant afford that much money for just a phone call, and the hospital itself had no idea.

The only ingredient information I can really find on that bottle is Methyl alchohol...which scares the crap out of me.

Ive given him an entire bowl of water in the last half hour, along with food and a whole Vitamin K tablet left from a previous escapade. He seems to be acting normal...He's sitting next to me now begging for my jelly beans.

Unlike radiator antifreeze (which tastes sweet), dogs will recoil from the horrible taste of windshield washer fluid. So you have that going in your favor. I highly doubt any got inside him.

Default Sounds like Jupiter will be fine.....

From Antifreeze Toxicoses
Quote:
Methanol
Methanol (also known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol) is found most commonly in "antifreeze" windshield washer fluid and varies in concentration from 20-100% (with 20-30% being the most common form.) ... The minimum toxic dose in dogs is 8.0 g/kg (or 3 ounces of 100% methanol). ...With small exposures in dogs and cats, only mild gastric upset is seen. Recent small ingestion is treated with dilution (milk and water) that may help minimize gastric upset. Large exposure would be expected to only occur when there is no other water source available. In the case of a large ingestion, the animal should be monitored and treated for acidosis.

Methanol is toxic. Causes blindness...and watch their renal function. A vet visit is in order ASAP.
