How do I find a specialist who does parathyroid operations for animals? In this case, I have a dog who appears to need this surgery.
I've looked at the American College of Veterinary Surgeons search and come up empty. I've asked around a bit, but the vets I've contacted don't really know.
I'm planning on taking her to UC Davis, but the surgeons are residents and not as experienced as I'd like.
I'm in Northern California.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

May be Dashdog will chime in. I think she is from around the area you are. If she doesn't, you might try DMing her.

I am in southern / central california. Down here the first place I would check out would be VMSG which is where Dash had his IMRT because they have some excellent surgeons according to a few others I know that have used them for surgery. Then again my own vet is a darn good surgeon too so I would probably ask him if he was comfortable doing that sort of surgery and if not go to VMSG.
Up North I would probably go to UC Davis. I would think the residents would have a surgeon with experience in with them but do not know for sure. Or I would ask UC Davis for a referral. I don't know if you will find a vet specialist that specializes in Parathyroid surgery but rather find a good surgeon that has done a few.

Thanks, folks! It's sort of an unusual surgery, but supposedly not too risky. The pet needs close monitoring after the operation to make sure calcium levels don't drop too low.
