Body Jerking, like hicups, but not hicups? (labrador, vet, barking)

My 14 year old labrador developed a new symptom yesterday. His body has a mild jerk every few seconds. It reminds me of when we have hicups, but it's not hicups. He's not in pain, but he is uncomfortable because he can't rest.
I was taking a nap when it first started. He let me know he was having a problem by jumping up on the bed and laying on top of me! I scooted over and layed there with him. I noticed that his body would do a little jolt and he would change position. Then it would jolt again and he would change position again. It's like he thought he just needed to change position to make it go away. No position made it stop. He had a confused look on his face. I petted him to reassure him.
My phone rang. My son needed me to pick him up. While I was getting dressed, I reached down and touched him while he was standing. The jolting was still there so it's not something that only happens while resting. When I was leaving the house, he started barking----like DON'T LEAVE ME! I felt terrible but my son had been waiting at the museum for an hour.
When I got home, the jolting was done. But today it started again while we were on the sofa watching TV! It's very subtle, but he's uncomfortable. He can't rest. I gave him a Benedryl and I called the vet. The vet tech said that sometimes puppies get a spasm in their stomachs that appear to have hicups. He thought it was a wise idea that I gave him Benedryl----might help him get some rest. We agreed that he should be seen on Monday.
In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone else has had an old dog with a similar symptom?
One of ours has developed the same symptoms over the last 3 - 5 years. Started slightly but has increased, Our vet says, "it isn't anything to worry about" - well, it's been a few years and we are no longer worrying. That said, she is quite the grand dame... really don't know her age, but she "ain't no pup".
Good luck on Monday! Need an update please.
My 11 yr old dog does this, almost like having a spasm or a very noticable twitch that goes through her entire body. I notice it during the night. She will be sound asleep and have a spasm and wake up, not knowing what woke her up. My dog has flybite seizures her entire life, and is no longer taking medication to control it due to the side effects on her already ailing liver. We believe this is just a continuation of her seizures. If it is a seizure, then there are plenty of options to help control them. Wishing you both the best. Let us know how the vet visit turned out.
My dog, who is fourteen years old, has the very same symptoms. I don't mean to underestimate the situation, but I think this is very common seizure-type stuff. My dog checked out more-or-less OK (other than age related issues) at the vet.
You're doing the best thing....keeping your pup calm and lovin' on him, as said. We're all waiting to hear what your vet says. Best~~~~

We just went outside, and he was alert. I'm looking forward to seeing the vet on Monday.
What happened at the vet? I hope everything is fine.
