LAS VEGAS, March 22 (UPI) -- Greyhound racing leaders were meeting in Las Vegas Monday amid what they called a further slide into oblivion for the industry.

The U.S. Association of Racing Commissioners has found that wagering on U.S. greyhound races declined from $3.5 billion in 1991 to $1.1 billion in 2007 -- a 68 percent drop, with more than half of the tracks existing in the late 1980s and early 1990s having closed, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Good, it's about time. I wonder what kind of ignorant people actually go to a track to watch dogs race. I think those involved with dog racing should have to spend eternity trapped in cages, eating crappy food and suffering injuries from being forced to run. But that's just my opinion...

my dog Lanie agrees

"Decline worsens."
That's like headlines for housing prices- "Housing prices improve, up 10 percent!" I used to read this stuff with dismay, as a renter being left in the dust (and would always write a letter to the editor).
People love to adop greyhounds- I often see people with two or more of them! Nothing worsening there, in my book.
