We have two dogs, a terrier mix and an I Don't Know What dog.
Our terrier mix is named Kiki for two reasons, we had just watched Kiki's Delivery Service, and it was easy for our 2 1/2 yr old to pronounce. We got her while we lived in Okinawa, so it also seemed appropriate for that reason.
Our IDKW pup is named Isis, she is a shelter dog. We were told she maybe anything from German shepherd to an Akita. We really don't care. We listed out names we thought would be good for a dog. Ginger, Willow, Abby, Gabby, Isis, Izzy, and Belle. The boys saw her and with her striking brindle colors felt Isis matched her best.
What is/are your dog(s) name(s) and why did you name them that???
Our brindle/white amstaff mix Oscar...because it's just what came to mind when we looked at him! He looks like an Oscar, we didn't name him after anybody/anything in particular and it's also a good clear name so he knows when we're speaking to him.
my dog sadie came with her name, and i think it suits her. i thought a little about changing it, just because it's a fairly common dog name and i live in a city (where we run into other dogs and their owners a lot), but she knew it really well and i did like it so i kept it.
my childhood dog was named scruffy - we had an epic name choosing session with my family one night soon after we got him, couldn't come up with anything, and i said "let's just call him scruffy in the meantime".

Chance - pit mix - named after the dog in "Homeward Bound" - so like that dog!
Jake - rottweiler - named after the song "Feed Jake - He's been a good dog" - he was a stray when we found him
Lincoln "Link" - rottweiler - named after President Lincoln - who was SHOT....there's more to this story....but he's our resident 'bad boy'
Mary - rottweiler - named after the song "Proud Mary Keeps on Rollin'" - she is tiny for a rottweiler and large and in charge
Genni - black lab - military dog who was named after a victim of the World Trade Center tragedy
Bryant - rottweiler - named after Coach "Bear Bryant"
Lenox - boxer - named after the human boxer
Daffy...Rottweiler... cause when rescued her name was Daphne.. Daphne she's not...LOL....Daffy she is.
Amos...Rottweiler... cause he's A-MOOSE. We just tell him Amos is french for A-MOOSE.
Roxy...Rottweiler...cause that was her name when we got her. I did give her a middle name Andy.
Rox-Andy. She plays like a BOY, even tho female Rotts are tougher.
Good thing OP didn't ask for all the dogs names & breeds that I've had in my lifetime.
My son and I named our Golden Retriever Hercules, because his paws were so large at 6 weeks old, we knew he would be a big boy. He is a healthy 92 lbs, and Hercules is a PERFECT match for him!
We also have a Springer (Spaz) Spaniel whose name is Dixie. Just worked really well being a "hunting" working dog, though she isn't with us, just our precious hyper girl!
We were asked to name a friends cats recently and went with Sonny (orange tabby) and Shaggy (black and silver) who had longer hair than the other.
We don't typically use human names for pets at our home. Names we have considered: Zeus, Snickers, Buddy, Coco, Lady, Rocky, Cooky, blondy... you get the idea. I have seen many German Sheppards named Rocky, and it has always seemed appropriate!
Jazz ( border collie X Cattle dog mix ) named by my best friends two young daughters because they thought she looked Jazzy
The late Dash ( border collie X springer spaniel) came named Sam but because I worked with a Sam I was not keeping that name and when I got him if you opened a door out the door he would "dash" and he dashed every place he went so his name was obvious... Dash
Phoenix ( deaf, vision limited homozygous Merle aussie or maybe border collie) came with her name and I kept it because like the Phoenix she has risen out of the ashes despite her handicaps.
Dazzle ( silken windhound) real name is Jesse but he got a name change for several reasons, Too many Jessies at the park, he is quite elegant and good looking so he " dazzles people" and Dazzle also combined the names of my two elderly dogs that I still had Jazz and Dash .
silken windhound? is that a real breed? (ok, google confirms that it is.) that's awesome - sounds like something out of a fantasy novel.
