We've got the stainless ones, but I started leaving a rubbermaid bowl in our bathroom for our GSD, because she sleeps at the foot of our bed at night, and now.. the BOTH go into the bathroom to drink water out of the plastic bowl before they drink out of the raised metal bowl..

sigh. spoiled!

Our dog uses a stoneware bowl (is that the same as ceramic?). When we were running these through the dishwasher, I put some water in a clear plastic bowl and she was so scared. She would touch her tongue to the water, and then jump back, then creep up again, and never did get more than a quick lap before she'd be too scared. She was fine again once she got her regular bowl back. I don't know if it was that she could see through it or what. The funny thing is that this is the same bowl she uses outside, and it's never a problem there. She is a weird dog.

Stainless steel slow feed bowl. My dog was inhaling his food when I first got him. The slow feed bowl forced him to slow down and now he eats at a more leisurely pace.

I don't like plastic. Had a plastic cat bowl and something about it seemingly attracted pharaoh ants (sugar ants). When I switched to a ceramic cat bowl, the ants stopped seeking out my cat's food altogether.

He has the small one.

We use ceramic for home feeding and stainless when we travel. I like the ceramic since its heavy enough not to be pushed across the floor as my chow hounds try to get that last morsel of food off the edge.

With the stainless we get to enjoy a performace of the "Feeding time ballet" as the bowls are pushed all around the room
