I agree, that's an insane amount of food. My 90lb Pyra-lab gets two chicken thighs per day and a couple of treats. We may bump him up to a whopping two thighs and a leg for a while if I start to see ribs too clearly (he's a short-hair).
IMO, the most affordable food that is a decent quality is Taste of the Wild. Shadow weighs 90 pounds, and a 15 pound bags lasts 6 weeks. I pay $32 for that 15 pound bag.
Where do you buy Taste of the Wild? I went to Petsmart but could not find it. Even asked one of the worker there about it.
irishfamily, don't you have an english bulldog? there is NO WAY he needs that much food, no matter what the brand, even if he needs to gain weight. my dog weighs around 50 lbs and i don't think she could even physically eat that much food in a day. and don't assume that because he eats it all he needs it - dogs are scavengers and will eat what they can get whether they're hungry or not. i would definitely go for a second opinion, or double check with your vet to make sure you didn't misunderstand their instructions.
and mak, thanks for the info about kirkland! that's quite a deal!

I should mention, Nature's Domain, the new Kirkland, grainless food is TOTW. TOTW only has grainless formulas, and Nature's Domain is produced at a Diamond facility, right along side of TOTW. One batch goes in TOTW bags, the other in Costco's. Same distributor, same formula. Even with the Costco membership price, it's well worth the savings!

Do you know if the grainless Nature's Domain is only available in the salmon formula at Costco? I don't even know if my Costco has this food -- I'll check when I go on Saturday -- but I don't think Artie's a fan of salmon. Well, if they only have that, then I can try to mix it in with his other foods (geez, his meals are becoming a buffet -- he already gets four different foods in his bowl... sheesh!), but I'm curious if it's only the salmon variety that they carry.

I'll second or third this - ours pays for itself in dog food savings on the second or third bag! With 6 dogs in the 100 pound range and a couple grand-dogs visiting once or twice a month - we use 40#'s every 10 days or so. I never mind renewing our Costco membership!
