Yahoo has a great group about Kidney disease/diet in dogs and they can help with diet. People post their dogs lab results and there is some one in the group that can help them figure out the diet. You do have to join the group. I have heard many great things about it.
My Jonah was on Hill's Science Diet k/d x 9 mos. . Dry kibble most of the time (with warm water added to make gravy) but ocassionaly the canned k/d when he was disinterested.
If I had to do it over again I would likely try home cooking his kidney diet food rather than the prepared. Would it have been better for him? I don't know.
