I gotta tell you my 1.5 year old grandkid loves my springer and my pet is the most gentle dog with kids other than my beloved lab that had passed two years ago.
On the other hand, my poodle and cocker would eat kids alive, i don't miss em.
We recently lost our little rat terrier/bison frise mix and he was the best ever w/kiddos. We got him when my youngest was just a toddler and he grew up w/her over the years. He let the kids cart him about, dress him up, swing w/him in their arms, down the slides in their laps. He loved all that attention and not once ever did he even nip at/growl at any of them. Always a willing participant, from being made into "circus dog" and all the tricks they tried to teach him, to being "baby" and dressed up and pushed around in a stroller. What a wonderful boy he was....
My folks have a husky and she is great with the kids. She is gettin along in age though and is getting a little less tolerant. When my nephew gets a little too rough she will try and leave, and if he continues, she will let out a little growl. I dont think she'd ever harm him, but at her age, I think she should be getting that respect. Freaks out my SIL when she does growl, but IMO, it shouldnt go that far anyways, kiddo should learn NO and LEAVE HER BE NOW when told.
We used to have a cocker, and he was certainly NOT a dog to have around smalls. Cranky little guy.
Here's 2 of the 100+ boxers currently in our care with Legacy Boxer Rescue and waiting for their forever homes in the Dallas Metro area. Boxers and kids were made for eachother! I'm a proud volunteer!
English Bulldogs! All the ones I know gravitate towards babies and kids. Mine has a thing for babies in strollers and, with the parent's permission, lays his gigantic head on the baby's lap to be pet.
Boxers! But really, almost any dog in the Bully group will adore a child. Dependent on the breed in that group you choose though, you might be up for a long road on training. We recently took in an (English) Bulldog and had to return him to the breeder because the previous owner had basically ruined him. I've never had any *real* problems with Boxers though. Most likely, my next dog will be a Boxer.
Then you have an odd ball like my mom's Pomeranian that is absolutely in love with children. My sister and I hate the dog, but she loves the grandkids.
