My dad works at a shelter and is trying to decide which dog to adopt. He wants to take one that is "least adoptable". All these doggies have been at the shelter the same amount of time. Can anyone give me some opinions?

My first thought was the large, black male dog is probably pretty high up there on "least adoptable" Aren't black dogs very hard to adopt out?

Opinions please!!!

I would go with Ray, the first dog. Since he was abused and mishandled he is going to need someone willing to work with him.

If you're talking about Rufus, the Lab mix, I'd guess that one too. I'd grab him in a heartbeat.

Ray might be tough too, being from an abusive home. Artie was abused as a puppy, and he's a handful. Then again, I'm not the best pack leader.

Your Dad is a great guy for going with the underdog (no pun intended).

Ray--I think--because of the word "rottweiler" and "abused and leary of strangers"--so no one with kids is going to adopt him--no one with other animals either probably.

I do think Levi is the cutest though (look at that scruffy face!)

Rufus is listed as a Lab mix, typical of shelters. He is clearly a Pit Bull mix, which is misleading. While he many have Lab, I think they should mention that Pit part as well. Many people don't want a Pit Bull and unknowingly adopt one because the shelter tells them it's a Lab instead of a Pit, then the dog gets returned when their vet/condo association/someone at the dog park tells them they have a Pit.

The rescue I volunteered with made sure people knew that they were looking at a Pit Bull, and many walked away, even though they fell in love with the dog prior to knowing this. Those that didn't care offered great homes. I say go with Rufus, he's not only black but a breed most condos/apartments/cities now ban.

Ray or Rufus, but I would be weary of Rufus being afraid/disliking men as it says in the profile.

Larger, older, solid black colored dog who can't live with cats or children.
Sometimes I think people also prefer to adopt females over males. Not me- I'm like 1 for 3 when it comes to girls (both my adopted girls went loco and decided to try and kill somewhat smaller dogs in the household. One I sent back to Best Friends, where she is very happy, and one I had to put down recently when she attacked me when I was stopping her from killing my terrier mix).
I have my little aussie feral mix girl. She's the queen and it will stay that way, and she loves her boys.

Good on the adopter for being open to any dog that he will take home. I've found I am more immediately drawn to certain types (herding dog mixes and markings) but come to love any dog I take care of.
