Is it really that different on the other side of the border? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/13/us...pgtype=article

No, I don't think so. Most people I know of don't dwell on these things.

I agree, of all the differences I immediately think of between Duluth and Superior, this doesn't exactly spring to mind. Stereotypical differences usually stay around which has more bars, or better bars. Or, "Superior has the drunks and Duluth has the hippies".

It might be accurate for the families involved, but it's not something that's normally on people's minds, except if they affected by a tax hike or benefit cut. The main thing dividing the towns, in my opinion, is football team loyalty- Duluthians are, for the most part (with some notable exceptions), fans of the Vikings, while Superiorites (with almost no exceptions) are even more fans of the Green Bay Packers. Superior seems to have a working-class demographic quite similar to that of West Duluth. It is also nearly flat, while Duluth has one of the biggest elevation differences (if not the biggest) of towns its size or greater east of the Mississippi. Both cities have wide streets, but almost all of Superior's principal streets are extra-wide, hinting at the founder's visions that one day the city would rival Chicago (hah!).

Tower Ave., Superior's traditional main street, is a bar district in its CBD, while Duluth's is given over primarily to tourist, financial, and medical interests (along with a few bars).
