Hey-oh again.

So I'm getting into town for the SHT the night of the 2nd around 8:30. If I can find a decent enough rate, I'd like to stay in town for the 4th and catch that awesome fireworks display I keep reading about. But with all the other impending expense of this extended backpacking excursion, I need to keep costs as low as I can help it.

With all that being said, can anyone recommend a dirt cheap motel that should definitely have vacancy in that timeframe? I don't imagine there's any real ghetto areas in Duluth, so I'm willing to find something bargain basement. Haha, if this were the big city, not a chance I'd be taking that route, but in your fair (somewhat)little town I'd say it's the smart thing to do.

If at all possible, please try to keep the location near Downtown so it's walkable for me straight off the bus. Thanks a ton ladies & germs!

Try the "Downtown Duluth Motel". It was previously the Best Western Downtown, but they lost their flag. Their rooms are newly remodeled and their WiFi works well; they may be a bit pricier than you are hoping for however.

I'm actually going to be vacationing for a week in Duluth visiting friends myself. Can anyone recommend a very high end hotel as opposed to a seedy rat trap the OP is looking for?

Create your own thread.

Also, don't be rude.

Not a local here, though I have spent a decent amount of time in Duluth. My first thought was for you to look near the start of the SHT:
SHT Duluth to Two Harbors

Looks like there are even two campsites at the start of the trail. Keep in mind, the sun sets late this time of year (almost 10pm), so you'll have time before sun down.

But you may want to be closer to the lake to enjoy the festivities. There should be some good options downtown; I'd use trip advisor or something similar if I were you, setting search parameters (neighborhood and cost). Good luck!

I always stay at the Voyageur downtown whenever I can. Never had a bad experience there, and the rates are quite reasonable. One of the entrance points to the boardwalk is right across the street, and if you get a room on an upper floor, you have a spectacular sunrise over the harbor.

Motel 6 may be an option as it is sort of close to M&H where lots of folks watch the fireworks from. Within walking distance anyway. Hope you find a place to stay for your trip. Good luck

I've unfortunately ran out of options. I can't spend a lot and the Motel 6 seems to be the only act in town. Just too bad that when you read the google reviews, you see the place has bedbugs, stinks like smoke, plumbing in disrepair and the list of horrors goes on.

If ANYONE would be so kind to rent to me -only- for the night of July 3, I would be willing to pay you 40 bucks and will let you hold my brand new high-end Mountain Hardwear tent as security until I leave the next day. I'm going to really be in a bad spot as the two layovers (6 hours and 12 stinkin' hours) are really going to exhaust me, and all I really need is a quick shower when I get in at about 10 p.m. and then a place to rest my head.

Please reach out in a private message here on C-D if you or someone you know lives close to Downtown Duluth and can help a thru-hiker on his way up to Canada get is much needed good-nights rest after finally arriving at his end destination before he hits the trail.

Thanks so much and hope to hear.

I'm originally from the Duluth/Superior area. I'm going to be in Duluth later this month and got a lakeview room at this place for less than $90/night! It's apparently (?) under new ownership, and getting some decent reviews.
